Costus malorteanus
Short with fat wide and fuzzy leaves.
Spectacular Costus with enormous fat fuzzy leaves. When mature, it gets about 4 feet tall , the leaves are about 16 inches long and 8 inches wide. From leaf tip to leaf tip, it is about 30 inches wide. I can' resist running my hands on the fuzzy leaves every time I walk by. The leaves start off with a bright green color that deepens to dark forest green with age.
Although we have it in the ground in Houston, it is in a protected cold frame that doesn't get below 45°F at night. Costus malorteanus really hates cold weather and will not survive freezing temperatures. If you are in Houston, come by during our open hours and you can see a large specimen in our garden.
