Calathea is a Greek word meaning vase shaped basket, which accurately describes the flowers. These lovely green flower bracts, with white to yellow flowers, in spiral, basket weave shape, appear to be molded from unblemished ice, hence the name. Flowers and shapely tropical foliage are prized by the world floral market. 2.5- 5 ft. tall 2 ft. wide Bright filtered light. Regular moisture and humidity, in fertile, sandy, humus-rich, well drained soil.
As taxonomists are wont to do, Calathea plants were renamed to Goeppertia.
